Let us help you
Home Page

Pretty soon your home will be overrun with those cute little ghosts, monsters, princesses and super heroes braving the night to attain their Halloween bounty. Since you are going to have a lot more people than usual walking on and off your property, now is a great time to take a look around and make sure everything is safe and sound. (You’ll also want to check with your Keenan Insurance Agent in Doylestown PA to make sure your homeowners insurance is up to par, but we'll talk about that later). These tips will help you stay focused on treats, not triage, this Halloween.

#1) Keep it Bright.  This may go against creating the coveted eerie atmosphere for your trick-or-treaters,  but it’s important to make sure that your home is properly illuminated. Dim walkways, driveways and staircases can cause trips and falls. Make sure all areas that will be exposed to Halloween foot traffic have sufficient lighting. You might even want to use extra lighting for your back yard and other less exposed areas to dissuade those of the mischievous persuasion.

#2) Security and Clarity. Make sure that any loose railings are fixed before the big day. You are going to have people of all ages walking up and down your steps (if you have them) or onto your porch. Make sure all structures are tightened up and secure. You’ll also want ensure that all walkways are cleared of debris or slippery substances. Moss on your steps, slippery leaves, hoses, toys, etc. can all be tripping hazards for your Halloween guests (especially since some of them could be wearing costumes that obstruct their vision or drag on the ground).

#3) Embrace Artificial Light. Basically, don’t use any candles outside. They are beautiful and cast off a wonderful spooky glow, but they are also a major fire hazard. Costumes and decorations are especially dangerous when exposed to flames, as they can catch fire very quickly. There are amazing battery powered tea lights that even flicker like a real candle that you can use instead.

#4) Keep Fido Inside. Our pets may be the most docile creatures, but any pet can get overwhelmed with all of the excitement of Halloween. Be sure to keep your furry friends inside and away from the front door. You don’t want them getting loose and potentially harming others or themselves.

#5) Check your Insurance. Halloween is actually a great time to take a look at your homeowner’s insurance and make sure it’s up to date and you have all the coverage you need. A good homeowner’s insurance  policy can protect you this All Hollows Eve if you run into mishaps such as fire (I warned you about those candles), vandalism, or if a trick-or-treater gets injured on your property.

Be sure to contact your Keenan Insurance Agent in Doylestown, PA to make sure you have the homeowners coverage and protection you need this Halloween. We don’t want things to get too scary.
