With Memorial Day and the 4th of July just a few weeks away, Americans nationwide have celebrated in honoring the
countless men and women who have served our country. For many, this patriotic celebration
marked the first of several pool-side, bonfire comprised, and grill-filled times that characterize
the sunny summer season. And, while these cherished days may be less famously symbolized
by unfortunate ways, it is important to realize that the joy often yielded by grill-filled times can
turn bleak in just a matter of moments if you're not careful.
Grilling sparks approximately 8,900 house fires per year. So, while grilling does result in some
sizzling good eats for family and friends, it poses a potentially serious safety threat. In fact, about 16,600
emergency room patients in 2014 suffered from grilling induced injuries. The Fire Protection
Association estimates that, between 2005 and 2009, grill fires triggered $75 million in property
damage. With grilling season heating up again, now is a better time than ever to become
familiarized with some proactive tips for preventing grill fires:
1) Maintain grill cleanliness —failing to do so accounts for the leading cause of grill fires,
according to research conducted in 2014. To effectively clean a grill, remove any fat and
grease residue before turning up the heat.
2) Move flammable objects away from the grill —according to the research conducted in
2014, the igniting of objects near grills serves as the second leading cause of grill fires.
3) Employ long-handed tools when grilling —doing so reduces the risk that hands will
contact dangerous flames.
4) Consider that the grill does not automatically cool down—an “off” grill can still be a hot
grill. In response, maintain mindfulness of this phenomena and ensure that others are
cognizant of it as well.
5) Establish an “off-limits
zone”—children sometimes find themselves tempted to play with
the grill. Prohibiting children from congregating around the grill can eliminate any burned fingers and toes.
6) Remain in the vicinity of the grill—the capacity to see potential grill-inflamed
as a critical way to prevent grill-inflamed
7) Stay alert—consciously monitor the grill and its surroundings, with all of the above tips in

they’re only enjoyed on the risky side.
Abiding by the above procedures for safer grilling, while
also considering the implications and importance of superb homeowners insurance, forms one
promising recipe for barbeque-infused
perfection. So don’t stop the grill-filled
altogether—just maximize your odds of stirring up some smokin’ delectable dogs instead of a
